Exeter Cycle Routes

With the warm, balmy days of summer approaching, there’s no better way to enjoy the sun than with a leisurely bike ride. We’ve therefore rounded up our favourite cycle paths in and around Exeter for the optimum day out!

Exe Estuary Trail

This 26-mile, mostly flat cycle route is one of the most favoured routes around Exeter. It’s predominantly off-road, and provides unique views of the River Exe as you make your way around Exmouth, Exeter, and Dawlish. Perfect for seeing wildlife and exploring maritime villages.

Exeter Quay Swing Bridge Loop

Just under eight miles long, this loop is great for any skill level due to the paved and flat surfaces. Enjoy the Two Bridges, Exeter Quay, and the Double Locks as you make your way around this trail, and don’t forget to stop off for a well-deserved refreshment with lovely views.

Haldon Forest Spicers Trail

Haldon Forest is home to a number of trails of varying difficulty, making it the perfect place to visit for all skill levels. The Spicers Trail incorporates a combination of surfaces with some narrow sections and gentle gradients, with fantastic views of the surrounding natural area along the way.

Haytor and Hound Tor loop from Exeter

This route takes you from the bustle of the city to the tranquillity of the moors. Very good fitness is required for this 48-mile route, but the views along the way are worth it. Enjoy the rolling hills of Dartmoor and local villages as you explore this side of Exeter.

Exeter, Dawlish, and Haldon Loop

Incorporating a medieval bridge, red rock cliffs, and the wildlife of the Devon countryside, this route is full of beautiful locations and places to explore. Despite the paved surfaces, the hills on this route add a challenge to the ride, so make sure you’re suitably prepared!
