With the days getting colder and darker and Halloween celebrations in full swing, there’s no denying we are well and truly into autumn. The next big thing? Bonfire Night. Enjoy sparkling fireworks, warm bonfires, and sweet treats this weekend with our round up of the best Bonfire Night Events in the South West.

Cornwall

Heartlands Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular

Sunday 5th November 2023 – 4:00pm to 9:30pm

Head to Heartlands for the ultimate Bonfire Night, including a fairground, food vendors, live music, fireworks, and of course the lighting of the bonfire!

Newquay Firework Display

Sunday 4th November 2023 – 5:00pm to 11:30pm

Celebrate Guy Fawkes with a bang the NQY Sports Centre, with six bars, five food vendors, inflatable fun fair, cinema screen, DJ and after party, and of course spectacular fireworks!

Devon

The Tar Barrels of Ottery St Mary

Saturday 4th November 2023 – 7pm

The Tar Barrels of Ottery St Mary have a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Leading up to Bonfire Night, the organisers soak the barrels with tar, for the infamous display of the lit tar barrels carried through the town centre in the evening.

Plymouth Hoe Bonfire Night

Sunday 5th November 2023 – 7:30pm

Plymouth Hoe’s Smeaton’s Tower Lighthouse provides the back drop for the perfect Bonfire Night. The grand lighting of the bonfire will happen at 7:30pm and features Guy Fawkes sat on top! The firework display begins at 8pm.

Teignmouth and Shaldon Bonfire and Fireworks

Saturday 4th November 2023 – 6:30pm

Watch the dazzling fireworks at Teignmouth Point from the warmth of the bonfire on Shaldon Beach. The family event includes food stalls, and this year’s theme is Star Wars, with children encouraged to bring Star Wars effigies to the bonfire in the afternoon. The bonfire will be lit at 6:30pm, with fireworks starting at 7:15pm.

Somerset

Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival

Saturday 4th November 2023 – 6pm

The annual Guy Fawkes Carnival in Bridgwater is one of the oldest carnivals in the UK, and it’s definitely worth visiting! Street theatre and marching bands will be leading up to the carnival from 10am, and fireworks and fair rides provide the perfect ending to an eventful day.

Weston-Super-Mare Cricket Club Bonfire

Saturday 4th November 2023 – 5:30pm to 11:00pm

Witness a fantastic display at Weston-Super-Mare’s Cricket Club courtesy of Firestorm Pyro FX in the warmth of the bonfire. Food and drinks stalls, inside and outside bars, and a mini funfair make this the perfect family event.
