2023: The Year of the Electric Vehicle

14 Jan 2023

If you’re on the hunt for a used electric car but find yourself hesitating before taking the plunge into the world of EVs, then we’re here to explain why 2023 is forecasted to be a massive year for the electric vehicle market.

With increased connected technology, fast-growing charging infrastructure, and an increase in sustainability and consumer consciousness, it will come as no surprise to learn that more and more people are buying electric cars, and they’re not looking back…

EV Sales are Rocketing

Due to growing consumer demand, a wider range of EV availability, increased consumer consciousness, and government grants, the UK’s electric vehicle market is booming.

In fact, 2022 saw a 40% increase in electric car sales across the country, with more than one in ten new vehicles being electric. And to add to this, ahead of the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicle sales, the number of EVs registered is forecasted to grow in 2023, 2024, and every year after that…

So if you’re sitting on the EV fence, it’s statistics like these that could sway your decision, more and more car buyers are going electric, so why not join them and buy a used electric car with Tangelo?

Connected Technology

A sharp increase in wireless connectivity and smart technologies in electric vehicles have played a key role in fast-growing consumer demand. Wireless connectivity essentially means being able to connect your phone or smart device to your EV, which in turn transforms the travel experience and the amount car features available for drivers and passengers.

EV owners can now benefit from internet usage, increased entertainment such as movies and games, and you can even make payments through your electric car now! Connected cars can also compile digital data and diagnostics to send a vehicle health report straight to your phone, so you’re prepared with the early warning signs of any issues, or potential breakdowns.

Increased EV Charging Facilities

To match the growing demand for electric vehicles in the UK is a fast-growing infrastructure for EV charging, with over 37,000 charging devices already available across 22,000 different charging locations around the country.

In fact, in December of 2022 alone, almost 1,000 charging points were installed across the UK, and that number is rising every single month. And it’s worth noting that this number doesn’t account for private charging points installed at home or in the workplace, with this figure estimated to be over 400,000.

Putting the stats to one side, it’s evident that access to EV charging facilities is growing quickly, meaning that owning an EV is becoming easier, and more accessible.

Increased Consumer Consciousness

A recent IBM study concluded that 57% of consumers are now willing to change their buying habits to help reduce their impact on the environment. And whilst recycling household waste, reducing plastic consumption, or shopping locally are much easier and simpler decisions to make than purchasing an electric car, it’s evident that consumer consciousness has taken a sharp turn for the better.

Alongside increased consumer sustainability, is a wider availability of electric cars on the market, more charging locations, and more exciting technologies which means one thing. Owning an electric car is becoming more desirable for plenty of reasons, so why not join the growing community of EV owners?
